- 7:30 PM2hCandlelight Service of Lessons and CarolsFor the past 60 years, Rooke Chapel and the Department of Music have collaborated to offer three Christmas Candlelight Services every December, bringing in hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and community members each night. The services have become a beloved tradition. Modeled after the Kings College Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols, the Candlelight Services feature traditional Bible readings and congregational singing. The service features performances by the Bucknell University Choir, under the direction of Dr. Caleb Hopkins, and the Rooke Chapel Ringers, under the direction of Robert Riker. We've also had the pleasure of enjoying performances by the Commonwealth Brass Quintet, much to the community's delight. The services are moving and thoughtful, filling hearts and minds. Each evening ends with the ceremonial lighting of candles – each member holds one and passes the light to the person next to them. The house lights are turned off and the chapel is ablaze by each and every congregation member's small light, representative of the light we can each bring to the world.
