Bucknell Ranked Fourth Among US Baccalaureate Institutions in Study Abroad
Bucknell University was ranked fourth among all American baccalaureate colleges — higher education institutions that focus on bachelor's degrees — for awarding credit for study abroad, according to the latest Open Doors Report on International Education Exchange. Open Doors provides comprehensive information resources on international students and scholars in the United States and U.S. students studying abroad.
The new ranking draws on data about students who earned study abroad credits in 2022-23. Bucknell had 486 students earn credit for study abroad that year.
"We are pleased to see so many of our Bucknell students take advantage of the study abroad opportunities we offer," says Stephen Appiah-Padi, director of the Office of Global & Off-Campus Education. "We try to offer a wide variety of programs abroad — both Bucknell faculty-led and partner provider programs — that fit our students' academic and professional interests, and it's rewarding to be recognized for our student participation in those programs."
The University offers six "Bucknell In" study abroad programs, which are off-campus study programs created, organized and led by Bucknell faculty to complement students' on-campus experience. Offered year-round, these programs provide Bucknell courses in a variety of disciplines and locations around the world, currently with programs in Spain, France, Athens, London, Ghana and the Asia Pacific region (Australia and Singapore).
Additionally, Bucknell offers exchange programs, which foreign universities sponsor in partnership with Bucknell; as well as approved programs, which are run through other colleges and universities and approved by Bucknell.
Bucknell also offers several short-term study abroad programs, which provide students opportunities to study outside the constraints of the typical academic year.
