- DescriptionUkraine's Revolution of Poetry: How Language and Metaphors have Changed since the Euromaidan Description: Yuliya Ilchuk is Associate Professor and the Director of Slavic Languages and Literatures Department at Stanford University. Her major research interests fall under the broad heading of cultural exchange, interaction, and borrowing between Russia and Ukraine. lchuk has also published several translations of Ukrainian poetry and edited and translated works for the anthology Ukrainian Literary Modernism: A Critical Reader (forthcoming in Academic Studies Press, 2025). Prof. Ilchuk's Title: "Your Loss—My Gain: Russophone Ukrainian Writers' Search for Identity during the War in Ukraine" Description: Amelia Glaser is Professor of Literature at UC San Diego, where she also holds the Endowed Chair in Judaic Studies and is the associate director for the Institute for Arts and Humanities. She translates from Yiddish, Ukrainian, and Russian, and is currently completing a book about contemporary Ukrainian poetry, Nation of Poets. Prof. Glaser's Title: "The Shadow Theater: Wartime Metaphors in Contemporary Ukrainian Poetry" These two talks will explore the position of the Ukrainian language against the backdrop of the Russo-Ukrainian War and the importance of poetry at moments of crisis.
